We are pleased to announce the exhibition Branched & Rooted: the Evolution of a Series by Orna Feinstein will be on view at the Museum of Printing History from September 25, 2008 to January 17, 2009. The Opening Reception will be September 25, 2008 from 6-8pm.
In Branched & Rooted, we plan to show the evolution of the series begun in 2004 and developed by Ms. Feinstein over the course of several years. Today the series numbers over 300 prints and 4 installations, and it continues to grow. The artist works in the medium of monoprint, a unique combination of printmaking and painting techniques, which results in a one-of-a-kind print. The Museum seeks to highlight the evolution of Feinstein's artistic process, both innovative and prolific, and the resulting eternal possibilities in form, color, and texture, possible in both nature and art.
Texas Grassroots: Botanical Prints by David J. Webb has been extended until December 13, 2008. If you haven't had a chance, come by and take a look at these intricate prints. The Texas grass specimens are quite large, some over 44" long, and were collected in the urban center of Houston . Webb pressed the specimens in a large herbarium press before inking them up and running them through a large etching press. The effect is stunning. This monoprint technique allows for incredible detail and sumptuous texture. One can see tiny hairs and elongated veins. The prints are titled by their genus and species name and represent a precise visual record of the grasses.
